Write By The Sea in Samos, Greece...

Session I: June 1-8, 2012

Session II: June 9-15, 2012

This June, Patricia V. Davis will be hosting 2  one-week long writing workshops on the glorious island of Samos in Greece! You’ll spend your mornings after breakfast with Patricia  talking about your own writing and fellow students’ writing, and creating new work with helpful hints from several unique writing exercises.  A special evening session will be dedicated to the assessment, marketability and potential avenues for publication for each participating writer's work.

                                                         The Island of Samos, Greece

In the afternoons you are free to explore the island, or to do your writing beside the beautiful Aegean sea. You can visit the shipyards in the harbor, enjoy short walks through the trails and paths or to Paleo Karlovasi.(Old City of Karlovasi) and even extend your enjoyment of nature by exploring the villages of Leka, Kastania and Kousmadei, all a short distance away.  Try a swim at Potami Beach, a walk to the old chapel of Metamorphosis in the Potami area, and then a wander on to the waterfalls.

For historic adventures, visit the wine factory, the old tannery factories and the folklore museum. Or go totally modern and work out at the sports stadium, and enjoy the delightful restaurants, cafes and shops. (Optional island tours can also be arranged for an extra cost to archaeological sites, museums, and excursions to the near island of Patmos and/or Kusadasi in Turkey.)

Be sure not to miss the beautiful Greek sunset...a perfect way to welcome the evening. Meet up with your fellow writers for a glass of wine as the sun goes down over the sea. Eat dinner with them at the hotel, or with your spouse or partner for a romantic dinner a deux.

A Village View in Samos, Greece

Yes, to help our workshop attendees in combining their family holiday with a writing life, we're particularly excited and happy to be able to offer the rare opportunity to combine a writing workshop week in Greece with a romantic getaway.   A limited number of spaces will be reserved for the partners or spouses of students attending the workshop. (However, for those writers looking for a week away from distractions, don't worry ---the workshop time is reserved solely for your writing. Partners and spouses are welcome at meals, but we keep the writing workshop times strictly private.)

You’ll be staying at the Anema-By-The-Sea Hotel Apartments in Karlovasi, which are only a few meters from the beach!  The studios and apartments are quaintly furnished in the island style, and each is equipped with a kitchenette stocked with cookware suitable for light meals. Each unit has a balcony, private bath, radio, and telephone. The family-run hotel's wholesome beauty compliments the unique, verdant island and its people. The hotel houses a Greek tavern, a fine dining restaurant, a swimming pool and pool bar, a snack bar, club, and tennis court. Free Wifi is available in the reception lounge and pool area. Conservationalists will enjoy the turtle shelter within the premises, which was created a few years ago to aid wounded turtles and to supply them with nurturing.
